About
CREATE/MAKE/PERFORM is a pilot program of the Finnish Heritage Museum intended to provide meaningful participatory art making experiences to older adults and to support the mastery of theater skills, personal creativity, and social engagement. There is no expectation for participants to have any direct connection to Finnish culture to participate or benefit from the workshops and activities.
The funding for the program comes from the Ohio Arts Council’s (OAC) Creative Aging Ohio (CAO) Initiative. The museum joins 18 other organizations participating in a learning cohort dedicated to creating hands-on arts experiences tailored to the needs and interests of older adults.
The workshop sessions for 2017 will focus on physical and vocal techniques, theatrical design, group dances, and singing as a chorus. Older adults (60+) of all abilities and experience levels are encouraged to participate. Sessions are FREE and open to the public, but reservations are encouraged to secure a spot.

Why is a heritage museum offering creative arts workshops?
"FHM members awakened their performance genes with SISU is in the Heart (a large community based play presented in fall 2015) and jointly wrote and performed 30 original two-minute plays last summer. The collective and individual performances were magnificently done and proved that you can’t keep a senior citizen down. A motto of the museum has always been, “we’re here, we’re serious, and we are active,” and there is no better way to model this value than by moving, writing, singing, and maybe even dancing to declare our well-being."
